Okay, I also am a Bay Area transplant who relocated to Davis to go to college. After spending four years riding my bike around time as the most efficient means of transportation, I was upset to see that Sacramento wasn’t as bike accessible. I would love to help reshape the streets of Sacramento to become more bike friendly but more importantly, help change the Sacramento mindset. Go bikes!

I’m one of those Sacramentens who left for the Bay Area and wasn’t sure I’d ever come back. Having been back in Sacramento since 2006 I’m learning that there is actually a lot of culture, a lot of good people, but most importantly, so much potential for change. My goal for Bikeramento is to see it come to fruition. I see it tying together so many hidden qualities of Sacramento and our community. For those who are interested in joining, visit us a the Capsity Offices anytime and we’ll fill you in!

Growing up in the Bay Area, I learned how to ride a bike at about 5 years old so I could hit the trails in the marsh with my dad. I miss that feeling of pure happiness as the wind kissed my cheeks while I was pumping my legs to get to the end of the trail first. I currently am working towards bringing that feeling back without the fear of injury and not being able to find the perfect trail. While on my journey to bicycle bliss, I am an avid reader, Gunther’s regular, and social do-gooder at a local non-profit. Come join me on my frequent rides from Midtown to Gunther’s anytime!

I have been searching for something for 6 years now. I started in Tulsa, Oklahoma which gave me some soul. I got all the way to Switzerland and through 16 more countries from that. I some how made it to Utah and on over to California. I am now in Sacramento where I am the happiest so far. I have a cruiser that gets me from point A to point Z. I love riding everyday. Early in the Morning is the best. Lets see where Sacramento wants to go. I want to get everyone on a bike one day a week. Lets make that Happen..

Why Bikeramento?
Because we should celebrate Flat City and pave the way to a better quality of life.
We need to lead. Affordable economic development. Global warming deterrent. Health and fitness investment.
That’s a trifecta, a holy grail of urban planning.
We need to connect the region without cars and The Velobahn, Central City Bikeway, would allow us to do this by completing the American River Bike Trail and making safer for commuters, families, and tourists to see our city in the open air.
What a beautiful city it is to see. Open your eyes…And ride. Just wait for the Sunday Parkways…And breathe.

I received my first bike when I was in my mid-twenties. Something I wanted to do for quite sometime. What a thrill to learn to bike!
In 1998 I relocated to the Sacramento foothills from the Bay Area and I began to mountain bike. I was riding in areas where it was quite evident that it was way above my skill, but I wouldn’t let anybody see me sweat (wink) which meant lots of scary falls, bruises, scraped knees and walking into corner-stores covered in blood looking for peroxide ;-(
I moved away from the foothills into midtown and I discovered and fell in love with our beautiful city. I began to experience it by riding my bike around town. Going to the grocery store, out to dinner, for a coffee run, to work, you name it! All alone I was amazed as to how lucky I was to live here!
In January 2008 I set goals for a green lifestyle. I sold my car and bought an Electra Cruiser and voila! Green Lorena began her journey. About the same time I met lots of people like me, activists in love with our city.
This “Sactivist” group genuinely wants to make a difference, that to us translated into Bikeramento! A group of individuals working together to improve our city and our way of life one spoke at a time!
I am excited to be a part of such an amazing group!

I moved to Midtown Sacramento in 1985 with the intent on living and working in close proximity. I bought my first bike in adult life, and haven’t stopped cycling ever since. Learning to bike around all around, I discovered that cyclists needed a voice for better conditions. In 1991, I helped start the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates, and in 1994 I help start the California Bicycle Coalition. I now work for the City of Sacramento as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. My latest involvement has been in the establishment of the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen in Midtown, and, of course, Bikeramento.
I’m excited about developing the bike culture here in Sacramento. It is part of my plan to make Sacramento Gold Level status in the ranking of Bicycle Friendly Communities from the League of American Bicyclists.
The future for bicycling in Sacramento is great. We have more people riding, who are discovering, or re-discovering how this is the solution for a whole host of problems.
