Paris By Bicycle
If you are planning to explore Paris and its surrounding countryside by bike, then there are some basic pointers to consider. As well as being a picture post-card city, Paris is a large European metropolis, and for cyclists, that equates to car traffic.
Your best bet for a bike adventure is to start in the outlying areas, and Hotel Orly near the major Paris Orly Airport is a great option. From here you can plan your route to Paris centre, and also be a stones throw from the open expanses of the French countryside. Cycling in the city itself is a pleasure, but just keep in mind that traffic can be crazy at times, and Parisians are known for their flamboyant driving!
In town there are many boulevards, pedestrian areas and good cycle lanes, and the city is looking to enhance this atmosphere by making the right bank of the River Seine a new urban boulevard. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town, there are some quality Tour de France style rides to be had.
After relaxing in the luxury of one of the Orly Hotels, you can track south of Paris along the River Seine through villages, forests, and farmland. This route has many quiet lanes and riverside bike paths, and if you want to voyage further, there are always trains that can take you back to Orly. Southwest of Paris offers another beautiful ride along rolling paths through parkland, and has many loop tracks back into the city.
Heading east and southeast is a real pleasure trip surrounded by flowers and woodlands. The path leads you to the Marne riverside, which is flat and without traffic. Heading out this way you end up at a large lake, and from there its a pleasant loop route back to Paris. As a final pointer: keep in mind that cycling directly north or northwest of Paris is not advised, as the routes are difficult to navigate.

Advantages of Electric Bicycles

An electric bike is a bicycle with a motor attached to the pedals and powered by a battery. There are many variations available from those which add a kit (containing the motor and battery) to a normal bicycle to a custom built one. For those looking to save money during the energy and economic crisis we are facing, the electric bike may be the ideal solution. The kits range in price from 0 to 0 and the custom built ones range from 0 to ,500. When compared to the cost of operating an automobile, these bicycles can be a real bargain. Riding an electric bike 500 miles can save around 25 gallons of gasoline. This can save the environment and the pocketbook.

The summer heat can take the starch out of any enthusiastic cyclist and hills and long distances can be rough on even the most seasoned of cyclists. An electric bicycle can take some of the pain out of exercising or running errands by helping the rider get to a destination fresh and stress-free.

A commute to work can be stressful in a car when dealing with traffic jams but breezing by the traffic on an electric bike or e-bike can aid the commuter into getting to work on time and without the sweat of pedaling the whole time. Time can also be saved looking for a parking space at the destination. Simply lock the bike and get to work.

Most electric bikes are equipped to function without any pedaling required but the cyclist can save battery power for longer distances by only engaging the motor when needed such as uphill or when energy levels wane. By law, the maximum speed is 20 miles per hour and the average maximum range is between 10 to 40 miles depending on the terrain, the weight of the cyclist and the climate.

Most motors run silently and all electric motors are environment-friendly and require very little power to recharge the battery. Small, lightweight trailers can be added for larger parcels and groceries or pouches and baskets can be installed on the frame for smaller packages. Electric bikes can provide exercise as well as help clean the air. Many people have turned to the e-bike all over the world and depend on them for transportation. They do not require a state license plate; and the operator does not need a license or insurance to ride them on public streets. The cyclist must obey the same traffic laws as motorists and motorists are required by law to respect the cyclist in the same manner. The road is a safe place for the law abiding cyclist. The electric bicycle is a perfect alternative to an automobile or motorcycle.

Finding Satisfaction In A Simulated Bike Ride
There is a perceived loss of satisfaction when a person uses an exercise bike to work out instead of a real one, because the experience differs so much between the two. Obviously, while it is not possible for an exercise bike to perfectly simulate the real thing, it is entirely possible to still find satisfaction in the ride when using the right model and with a small amount of positive thinking.

Firstly, the right model needs to be selected for the person who wishes to replicate the experience of riding the real thing. There are many options available, so choosing the correct one is highly important, because one that does not fill the needs of the person will be a pointless expenditure that yields little personal profit.

In today’s market, there are many models that seek to recreate the look and feel of an actual bicycle. Selecting one of these models that features full adjust-ability and customizable workouts should be a priority if recreating a similar experience is to be accomplished.

New models also feature internet accessibility that allows for faithful recreations of actual trails using topographical data and a modular adjustment system that account for things like steepness and pitch. Picking a model with this capability is one of the most crucial ways that the satisfaction from an actual cycling experience can be achieved in the home.

If it all possible, consider setting up the exercise bike in front of a window, so that the rider can see the outdoors and feel a connection to what they are seeing. For whatever reason, human beings are inspired and motivated by scenery, so selecting a window to ride in front of instead of a featureless wall is a good way to keep the user returning for more work outs.

The setting of the room where the bike is located is also an important factor in the experience. Having the equipment located in a cheery room with outside stimulus (such as a television or picturesque window) is always a good idea.

When attempting to find satisfaction on the exercise bike, selecting the right difficulty is highly important, because too easy of a ride brings no sense of accomplishment and to difficult of a ride is discouraging for new or returning users. Therefore, picking an experience that is challenging will most likely yield the greatest amount of personal satisfaction.

Although it may seem a bit cliche, imagination is an important part of the process when using an exercise bike. If the user is able to mentally put themselves elsewhere or focus on another aspect at the time, then the physical discomfort associated with the ride will be diminishes, as well as making it more possible to imagine that the experience is taking place in the real world.

Above all else, it is vital that the person using the exercise bike finds the proper motivation to keep going with their fitness regimen. The motivation found needs to be an intrinsic, innate one that satisfies some part of what the person wants out of their life.

For some, the motivation will come through goal setting and the process of achieving those goals that they set at the beginning of their exercise regimen. For others, it comes through the will to build a pattern of use that becomes a part of their daily routine. Still others may find their motivation in the feeling of the room they are in, which can become a private sanctuary for them to retreat to when they encounter outside stresses.

By combining all of the above elements into one cohesive whole, the will to use the bike can be found as well as the pleasure and catharsis possible when using it. By creating a setting where the user feels safe and secure, the simulation can be as close to the real thing as is possibly with the given elements.

Finding the same satisfaction when using an exercise bike instead of a real one is a challenging experience, and is one that cannot fully simulate the pleasure of doing the real thing. However, with the right attitude and the correct model, it is possible to find a unique kind of catharsis within the experience that can be just as invigorating.

Buying Mountain Bicycle Wheels
There are many different types of road bike tires, and the one you should use on your bicycle depends greatly on what exactly you will be using the bicycle for. These uses include leisure rides, training, and racing.

Wheels are one of the most important pieces of equipment on the bike, so the process of purchasing them is a vital one. There are three main types of road bike tires: clincher, tubular, and aerodynamic or special design wheels.

Clinchers are the most common type of wheel amongst road bike riders today. These are left open on the rim side and are clamped to the rim on the other side.

This seals off the tube inside and provides a steady ride. Usually, clincher tires are used for leisure riding or low-intensity training.

They tend to be very strong, sturdy, steady, and very low-maintenance. Tubular wheels are usually used for racing bikes because they tend to be very lightweight.

This causes them to be more expensive than a clincher tire. The tire surrounds the inner tube and is then glued to the rim.

They are considered a high-performance tire, allowing them to be exposed to much more wear and tear. They are also much more difficult to maintain and repair if they are broken.

Aerodynamic and other specially designed wheels are used in triathlons and time-trial races. They usually include a longer rim design that either replaces or goes into the spokes, improving the aerodynamics of the tire.

Time-trial tires are normally much smaller in diameter and have wind-reducing features incorporated into them, such as flat spokes. Aluminum has been the most common type of rim in the past because it is the lightest material that is durable enough to be used for riding and because it is easy to manufacture.

Carbon rims, on the other hand, are presently being used more often than aluminum because they help to reduce power loss as the rider shifts their weight to the back wheel. Carbon causes the rim to be much stiffer, which reduces the need for a high number of spokes.

A lower number of spokes allows the rider to expend less energy while accelerating, which is great for long races. A higher number of spokes can indicate a more durable setup, which is better for mountain biking.

Riding a mountain bike on 29-inch wheels is a whole different experience than riding on traditional 26-inches. It all boils down to maneuverability, stability and personal preference.

Try them both and ride whichever you like best. With its larger, heavier wheels, the average 29-incher has a more stable ride in most situations.

Tires on the larger bicycle are kept softer than the 26-incher and the combination of weight and softness keeps you anchored to the ground more solidly over medium to rough terrain than smaller tires. It is almost physically impossible to build a 29-inch of the same weight as a 26-inch, so the wheels are larger, heavier and more difficult to turn quickly.

And all that additional mass is held in the perimeter of the wheels, making it feel even heavier while riding. Thus, the 26-inch bicycle is faster and more maneuverable in technical descents and quick turning situations.

Due to its extra weight and stability, the 29-incher will almost definitely be more stable in technical single track situations, particularly those that do not require very quick turning or a short turning radius. That said, a dual suspension 26-inch bicycle should be able to handle anything the trail can throw at it.

Weight, again, is the deciding factor here as no rider wants to voluntarily carry additional weight on a steep climb if he can help it. The lighter 26-inch bicycles tend to climb better, although a dual suspension adds weight to the bicycle as well.

Due to its additional height, taller riders tend to be drawn to the 29-inch bicycles. With their longer limbs and levers, many of these taller, experienced cyclists find these bigger bikes even more comfortable than the bikes they had before.

Shorter riders may even find the 29-incher to be more like mounting a horse than a bike. Each size has its benefits and drawbacks, depending on the style of rider you are and the terrain you choose to ride on.

Four Tips For Riding Your Bicycle in Bad Weather

Riding your bicycle in bad weather can be a chore or a challenge. Here are four tips for bad weather cycling to help you overcome those obvious challenges and maybe even have some fun while you’re out there dodging rain drops and snow flakes:

Tip 1. Equip yourself and your bike for the weather. If it’s rainy, be sure you have good rain gear to wear for the trip. Be sure your bike is equipped for rainy weather, too. Keep the brake pads in top shape and, assuming you have a road bike with fenders, check that there is adequate clearance between tire, brakes, and fenders. You might want to adjust the angle of your fenders if your bike permits, so as to minimize the back-splatter from rain on the street or trail. Also, if you’re carrying spare clothing or important documents and riding to work, make sure you have sturdy, waterproofed saddle bags or paniers.

In snowy weather, especially if you ride streets or trails that are not adequately cleared of snow and ice, consider riding without fenders. You might even want to look for wider and/or knobby tires for better traction in snow or ice.

Tip 2. Ride with even more caution than usual. If you’ve ridden much in urban settings especially, you know that automobile traffic sometimes fails to notice bike riders are even around. Knowing how cyclists are almost invisible to many drivers, be especially cautious riding in any sort of traffic if it’s raining, sleeting, or snowing. Don’t assume drivers will act sanely for weather and road conditions, much less do so around a bicycle. Take your usual precautions of a “defensive cycling” nature, then add an extra note of caution. Adhere carefully to designated biking lanes and assume that motorists may fail to recognize the bike path. If your town or cycling location permits, bad weather may be the time for you to get off the street entirely in some cases and take to the walkways (being vigilant not to disturb or run over pedestrians, of course.

Tip 3. Use some common sense about the route you ride. Do you normally ride in congested areas, perhaps as you commute to work? Are you out there facing down cars and trucks on high-traffic throughways? Forget being aggressive even in good weather, but especially in bad weather. (If you don’t understand why, read Tip 2 again.) Look for low-traffic back routes as an alternative. If there is a great deal of ice on the streets or roads, an off-road trail might actually offer you better traction and be a good alternate route to get you to work or shopping or wherever you’re headed. Obviously, if some times of day are better than others because of prevailing weather quirks, and you have any flexibility for scheduling your bike trip, adapt accordingly. Whatever you do, look for safer routes and safer travel times when you’re cycling in nasty weather conditions.

Tip 4. Work with the weather, not against it. Which is just another way to say: Be very careful and understand your limitations based on the rain, sleet, snow, high winds, and other climate facts-of-life you are facing. If necessary and you have the luxury, ride a heavier, sturdier bicycle with wider tires in ice and snow. Make sure you show a little common sense based on the weather, observing all safety “rules of the road.” And by all means wear bright, easily visible clothing. Be sure you turn on whatever lights and shine up any reflective surfaces on your bicycle.

Don’t let the weather get you or keep you down if you love to ride your bicycle. With some care and common sense, these four tips for riding your bicycle in bad weather will give you a good start to getting along in rain, snow, or sun. Enjoy your ride!
